General Information » Broadband
What is the provisioning/connection fee for broadband? Does it include the ADSL router?
To have the ADSL service activated, you will need to pay a provisioning fee of $110.00.
As a part of the provisioning process a Telstra technician has to:
- Make sure there is ADSL equipment at your exchange
- Make sure that your phone line is suitable for ADSL
- Install any equipment in the exchange if necessary
- Configure your line for ADSL
Of the fee we charge you, the majority goes to Telstra for the line configuration and provisioning.
Other ISP's often absorb this provisioning fee but lock you into a long-term contract, Internet Tasmania doesn't absorb the cost as we do not have long-term contracts. Being locked into a contract for an extended period of time is risky as the broadband market is highly volatile. Products and pricing are continually being refined, and these new services may not be available under an existing contract.
An ADSL router is not included within the provisioning fee although we do sell ADSL routers at reasonable prices.
We recommend either the Billion 5210S single port router - $87.00 (self-installed) or Billion 7300 four port router – $99.00 (self-installed).
Discounted price for both the provisioning fee and router is as follows:
- $187 (Billion 5210s single port router) and
- $199 (Billion 7300 four port router).
